VIR’s Executive Director Michael Buller had announced: “We will focus on important future topics such as sustainability and new technologies like artificial intelligence.”
A colorful mix of attendees from (travel) technology providers, travel portals, tour operators, destinations, investors, mobile operators, start-ups and media took part in the event, sharing their perspectives on today’s travel – and the travel of tomorrow.
The program of the Online Innovationstage
The first day of the travel trade show focused on sustainability. Within a workshop format, participants jointly developed ideas and shared their experiences with sustainable tourism. This was followed by an evening event – the TIC & VIR Travel Start-up Night – sponsored by the Spanish Tourist Board. In addition to the well-known start-up competition, there has been plenty of time for networking.
The second day revolved around exciting future topics as well as current developments in the digital world. In the morning, Artificial Intelligence has been addressed through various presentations and case studies. In the afternoon, Peakwork demonstrated the next level of travel technology based on blockchain technology.
